Niger Delta Students in UK Honour Tinubu, Otuaro at PAP Interactive Session in London
Beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) currently studying in universities across the United Kingdom have honoured the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with an Award of Appreciation in recognition of his administration’s sustained commitment to the programme and its scholarship initiative for youths of the Niger Delta region.
The award was presented during an interactive engagement between the scholarship beneficiaries and officials of the programme in London. The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, received the prestigious award on behalf of President Tinubu.
The event was organised by the Presidential Amnesty Programme as part of activities on the sidelines of the President’s official state visit to the United Kingdom.
The interactive session was convened by the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dennis Brutu Otuaro, who used the opportunity to engage directly with scholarship beneficiaries pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various British universities.
The students expressed deep appreciation to the President for sustaining and expanding the foreign scholarship initiative, describing the programme as a transformative intervention that has provided thousands of Niger Delta youths with access to world-class education and professional development opportunities.
According to the beneficiaries, the administration’s continued investment in the educational advancement of Niger Delta youths reflects a strong commitment to peace, stability, and long-term development in the region.
Otuaro Receives Special Recognition
In recognition of his leadership and commitment to human capital development, the PAP Administrator, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, was also honoured by the students with the prestigious “Face of Niger Delta Human Capital Development and Empowerment Award.”
The students commended Dr. Otuaro for strengthening the programme’s engagement with beneficiaries and ensuring that scholarship opportunities remain accessible to deserving youths across the Niger Delta.
They noted that his leadership has helped reposition the Presidential Amnesty Programme as a vital instrument for sustainable peace and socio-economic empowerment in the oil-rich region.
Distinguished Dignitaries in Attendance
The colourful event attracted several prominent dignitaries from government, the Niger Delta community, and diaspora organizations.
Among them were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri; the Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Goodluck Ebelo; and the Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to the Governor of Delta State, Olorogun (Mrs) Gloria Aghaghovia.
Also present were representatives of the Ijaw People’s Association and members of other Niger Delta diaspora groups who came to show solidarity with the scholarship beneficiaries.
A Programme Strengthening Peace in the Niger Delta
The Presidential Amnesty Programme remains one of Nigeria’s most significant peace-building initiatives aimed at addressing unrest in the Niger Delta by providing rehabilitation, education, and economic empowerment opportunities for youths of the region.
Observers at the London interactive session noted that the continued expansion of the scholarship programme is helping to nurture a new generation of professionals capable of contributing to national development and regional stability.
