A political support group operating within the Niger Delta region, Tompolo Solidarity Forum, has thrown its weight behind the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that the current federal government has taken strategic steps capable of stabilizing the region and strengthening Nigeria’s economic recovery.
In a press statement issued on March 26, 2026, and made available to journalists, the group strongly criticized what it described as anti-development tendencies by certain leaders in the Niger Delta, warning that divisive rhetoric and actions capable of undermining regional stability must be avoided.
The statement, which emanated from the creeks of the Niger Delta, emphasized that the Forum’s endorsement of President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections was based on what it described as “observable policy direction and deliberate government interventions” aimed at addressing long-standing socio-economic concerns in the oil-rich region.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, the Chairman of the Tompolo Solidarity Forum (Prince Ubula E. O) noted that the current administration has demonstrated clear commitment to peacebuilding, economic recovery, and inclusive governance, particularly in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo and Rivers States.
According to the group, the relative peace recorded across several communities in the Niger Delta in recent times is not accidental but the product of sustained engagement between the Federal Government and local stakeholders.
The Forum further cautioned certain Niger Delta leaders and former agitators against making statements or engaging in activities capable of rekindling instability or undermining ongoing development initiatives in the region.
“We urge all stakeholders to adopt a constructive approach to issues affecting the Niger Delta. Sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, unity, and responsible leadership,” the statement noted.
Reflecting on the historical development trajectory of the Niger Delta, the Forum acknowledged that the establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was initially welcomed with great optimism by the people of the region.
However, it observed that despite the lofty expectations surrounding the interventionist agency, the pace of infrastructural and socio-economic development has fallen short of the aspirations of many communities, a situation that contributed to renewed agitation in the region in later years.
The Forum also recalled the historical struggles of Niger Delta nationalists, particularly the activism of Major Isaac Adaka Boro, whose agitation for justice and resource control remains a defining chapter in the region’s political history.
While acknowledging these historical grievances, the group stressed that the path forward must be anchored on constructive engagement and strategic partnerships with government institutions.
The statement also paid glowing tribute to Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, describing him as a central figure in sustaining peace and stability across the Niger Delta.
According to the Forum, Tompolo’s leadership has played a vital role in bridging the gap between local communities and federal authorities, thereby contributing to the reduction of militant activities in recent years.
The group particularly commended the Federal Government for awarding the pipeline surveillance contract to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, noting that the initiative has significantly improved oil infrastructure protection across the Niger Delta.
It added that the surveillance contract has led to increased crude oil production, improved national revenue generation, and expanded employment opportunities for youths within host communities.
“These developments are already producing measurable economic benefits not only for the Niger Delta but for the entire Nigerian economy,” the Forum stated.
Reaffirming its mission, the Tompolo Solidarity Forum pledged to continue advocating for peace, regional development, and human capacity building across the Niger Delta, while encouraging cooperation among political leaders, community stakeholders, and federal institutions.
The Forum concluded by urging all stakeholders to remain united in pursuing the collective interests of the Niger Delta region and the broader Nigerian federation.
