In what many observers have described as a historic and unifying gathering, the immediate past Vice Chairman, Rt. Hon. Major Atigbi, has been formally appointed as the Chairman of Ofunama Federated Communities.
The decision was reached during a well-attended community meeting held at the Opiti/Alopomine Town Hall in Ofunama, where indigenes of the community both at home and in the diaspora participated actively in the deliberations.
The gathering brought together elders, youth leaders, women representatives, and respected stakeholders who converged to deliberate on matters affecting the progress, unity, and leadership structure of the federated communities. The meeting reflected the deep communal spirit that characterizes the people of Ofunama, widely acknowledged as the ancient motherland of the Egbema Kingdom.
Rt. Hon. Major Atigbi, who previously served the community as Vice Chairman, emerged as the consensus choice of the people following deliberations that emphasized experience, dedication to community service, and his long-standing contributions to the peace and development of the area.
Community leaders noted that his appointment represents continuity in leadership, strengthened unity, and renewed commitment toward the development of Ofunama and its federated settlements.
During the meeting, a new executive committee was also constituted to assist the chairman in coordinating the affairs of the Ofunama Federated Communities.

Participants at the meeting called on indigenes of Ofunama both within Nigeria and across the diaspora to support the newly constituted leadership in order to sustain peace, unity, and meaningful development across the community.
Speakers further emphasized the historical significance of Ofunama, describing it as the ancient motherland of the Egbema Kingdom, whose cultural heritage continues to shape the identity and communal values of its people.
The atmosphere at the Opiti/Alopomine Town Hall was filled with enthusiasm and optimism as community members reaffirmed their collective commitment to unity, progress, and the preservation of their rich cultural heritage.
Observers say the emergence of the new executive leadership marks another important milestone in strengthening grassroots governance and communal solidarity within Ofunama and the wider Egbema Kingdom.
