Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi Praises Ijaw Leaders as INEC Moves to Fully Implement Warri Delineation
Academic, Development Advocate Hails Resilience, Constitutional Struggle and Democratic Triumph in Warri Federal Constituency

The unfolding implementation of the Supreme Court-ordered delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency has continued to reverberate across the political landscape of Delta State and the wider Niger Delta region, with prominent academic, development advocate, and House of Assembly aspirant for Ovia South-West Constituency under the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi, commending Ijaw leaders for their steadfast commitment to justice, equity, and constitutional democracy.
In a statement made available to journalists, Dr. Agbedeyi described the latest actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic evolution and a vindication of years of lawful advocacy undertaken by Ijaw leaders and stakeholders who consistently pursued justice through constitutional means.
According to him, the recent developments surrounding the Warri Federal Constituency delineation represent far more than a political exercise. Rather, they symbolize the triumph of the rule of law, the supremacy of judicial pronouncements, and the resilience of a people who chose dialogue and democratic engagement over confrontation.
Dr. Agbedeyi noted that the struggle for a fair and equitable delineation within the Warri Federal Constituency has spanned several years, culminating in the Supreme Court’s directive compelling INEC to undertake a fresh delineation exercise to address longstanding concerns relating to representation, electoral fairness, and demographic realities.
The academic scholar observed that throughout the period of legal contestation and political uncertainty, Ijaw leaders remained remarkably focused on constitutional processes. Despite frustrations and perceived political marginalisation, they continued to engage institutions of state through lawful channels, demonstrating a level of political maturity that deserves commendation.
“The resilience displayed by Ijaw leaders throughout this historic struggle is worthy of recognition. Their faith in democratic institutions and their commitment to constitutional justice should serve as an example to communities across Nigeria. Rather than resorting to violence or lawlessness, they embraced the path of dialogue, litigation, advocacy, and peaceful engagement,” he stated.
Dr. Agbedeyi further observed that the latest actions taken by INEC indicate that the delineation process has moved beyond policy declarations into practical implementation.
He recalled that when the electoral commission unveiled the final delineation report in May 2026, the Commission indicated that the report constituted its final decision on the matter and was intended for implementation in line with the Supreme Court judgment.
Recent developments have further strengthened that position. INEC has since restored constituencies affected by previous suppressions and fixed dates for political parties to conduct primaries in the affected constituencies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Dr. Agbedeyi, these actions constitute clear evidence that the implementation process is now underway and that the long-standing judicial directives concerning the Warri Federal Constituency are gradually being translated into practical democratic realities.
He emphasized that the significance of the development extends beyond the Ijaw nation and should be viewed as a victory for constitutional governance, judicial integrity, and democratic accountability.

He urged all stakeholders, including the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities, to embrace peace, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue as the implementation process progresses.
“The future of the Niger Delta depends upon our collective commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence, and equitable representation. Sustainable development cannot flourish in an atmosphere of division and hostility. Every community must feel represented, respected, and protected under the law,” he said.
Dr. Agbedeyi also called on INEC to maintain transparency, professionalism, and impartiality throughout the remaining phases of implementation while ensuring that all electoral processes associated with the restored constituencies are conducted in strict compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
