Egbema Youth Council Worldwide Denounces Edo Riverine Carnage, Demands Meticulous Justice
The leadership of the Egbema Youth Council (EYC) Worldwide has veheently condemned the gruesome killing of innocent persons along the Abiala River corridor in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, describing the incident as an execrable manifestation of criminal barbarity capable of destabilizing the already delicate socio-communal equilibrium within the Niger Delta riverine axis.
In a strongly worded communiqué issued shortly after an emergency consultative meeting, the President of the Egbema Youth Council Worldwide, Barr. Amatelemowei A. Sode, expressed profound consternation over the tragic bloodletting allegedly perpetrated around the Late Brandly Camp near the Ologbo River area.
The council lamented that the sanguinary episode has not only plunged bereaved families into inconsolable anguish but has equally generated apprehension and trepidation among adjoining communities whose livelihoods depend substantially on the serenity of the waterways.
According to the EYC President, no civilised society aspiring toward communal advancement and sustainable coexistence should condone such homicidal ferocity under any guise whatsoever.
Barr. Sode further admonished security agencies to eschew lethargy and institutional complacency by ensuring that every individual complicit in the atrocious act is apprehended and subjected to the full weight of juridical accountability.
“The sanctity of human life remains inviolable and sacrosanct. Consequently, any individual or syndicate responsible for this reprehensible carnage must not be allowed to evade justice through political patronage, ethnic manipulation, or communal propaganda,” the statement asserted.
The youth body also cautioned against incendiary accusations and retaliatory rhetoric capable of exacerbating tensions across the fragile riverine settlements of Egbema Kingdom and adjoining territories.
While sympathising with families devastated by the incident, the council emphasized the imperative necessity for circumspection, restraint, and constructive engagement pending the outcome of comprehensive security investigations.
The organisation noted with grave concern that the proliferation of unverified allegations and inflammatory narratives on social media platforms could potentially precipitate avoidable reprisals capable of degenerating into a broader communal conflagration.
EYC Worldwide reiterated that Egbema Kingdom has historically remained a bastion of hospitality, coexistence, and communal concord, insisting that criminal elements should never be permitted to define the collective identity of the peace-loving people of the area.
The council further appealed to stakeholders, community leaders, youth organisations, and security operatives to synergistically collaborate toward preserving peace and forestalling further deterioration of the security architecture within the Niger Delta waterways.
Observers within the region have continued to express apprehension following reports that armed assailants allegedly infiltrated the settlement through the Ologbo River corridor under the cover of darkness before unleashing mayhem on unsuspecting residents.
Meanwhile, community stakeholders from Abiala II, also known as Kokodiagbene, have repudiated allegations linking the community to the killings, describing such claims as malicious conjectures designed to provoke hostility and communal distrust.
The Egbema Youth Council Worldwide therefore urged all parties to prioritise dialogue, legal procedures, and institutional conflict-resolution mechanisms rather than resorting to emotional recriminations capable of jeopardising regional stability.
