The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has congratulated the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election for another term in office, describing the outcome of the August 15, 2026 governorship election as a significant expression of the confidence placed in his administration by the people of the state.
In a press release signed by the National Chairman of the party, Prince Dr. Chinedu Obi (Ohamadike), FCCFI, the National Management Committee, National Executive Committee and entire membership of the National Rescue Movement commended the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights and participating in the electoral process.
The NRM said Governor Adeleke’s victory should not be viewed merely as an electoral triumph but as a renewed mandate and a responsibility entrusted to him by the electorate.
A Mandate for Greater Service
According to the party, the election result represents a reward for what it described as good governance, responsiveness and people-oriented service delivery, while also demonstrating the confidence of the people in their constitutional right to determine who governs them.
The party noted that the outcome was a testament to the enduring principle that political power ultimately derives from the consent of the governed and that the people retain the sovereign authority to choose their leaders through the ballot box.
The NRM also commended the people of Osun State for their participation in the democratic process, describing their decision as a reaffirmation of the fundamental democratic principle that political power must be derived from the will of the electorate.
NRM Challenges Adeleke to Do More
While congratulating the governor, the National Rescue Movement challenged Senator Adeleke to regard his re-election as more than a celebration of political victory.
The party urged him to see the renewed mandate as a solemn covenant with the people of Osun State and an opportunity to deepen his commitment to people-centred governance.
The NRM called on the governor to place greater emphasis on quality infrastructure, employment creation, improved education and healthcare, economic empowerment, security, social protection, transparency, accountability and equitable development across the state.
According to the party, the real test of the renewed mandate will not be the electoral victory itself but how effectively the administration translates the confidence of the electorate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
Call for Inclusive Governance
The NRM further urged Governor Adeleke to broaden the circle of beneficiaries of government and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach ordinary citizens across the state.
The party specifically called for greater attention to young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and vulnerable communities, stressing that the next phase of governance should be characterised by broader inclusion and improved service delivery.
The party said the people of Osun State had spoken through the ballot and that their mandate should now translate into concrete development and measurable improvements in their welfare.
Rise Above Partisan Politics
As Governor Adeleke commences his second term, the National Rescue Movement called on him to rise above partisan considerations and govern for all residents of Osun State, including those who voted for him and those who supported other candidates.
The party maintained that the true measure of democratic leadership goes beyond winning elections. According to the NRM, an electoral mandate should be used to build a more prosperous, peaceful, inclusive and united society.
The party also appealed to political actors across the state to respect the will of the electorate and continue to strengthen democratic institutions through peaceful engagement, tolerance, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
“The People Have Spoken”
The National Rescue Movement concluded its message by reiterating its congratulations to Governor Adeleke and wishing him wisdom, courage and a renewed sense of responsibility as he leads Osun State into the next phase of its development.
The party’s message was anchored on a call for the democratic mandate to translate into greater service, development and prosperity for the people.
“The people have spoken. Democracy has prevailed. The mandate must now be translated into greater service, greater development and greater prosperity for the people of Osun State.”
The NRM’s position underscores the responsibility that accompanies electoral victory, urging the governor to transform the renewed confidence of the electorate into policies and programmes capable of delivering inclusive development and improving the quality of life across Osun State.
