AROGBO IBE DAY 2026: AROGBO SET TO HOST 28TH CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Month-Long Celebration to Feature Royal Ceremonies, Cultural Displays, Sports, Public Lecture, Entertainment and Thanksgiving

The people of Arogbo Ibe are set to celebrate the 28th Arogbo Ibe Day Celebration 2026 Cultural Festival, a major annual gathering designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage, traditions, history and communal values of the Arogbo people.
The celebration, according to the programme released by the organisers, begins with a series of pre-programme activities on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and culminates with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The festival is being held under the distinguished patronage of His Imperial Majesty, Pere Zacchaeus Doubra Egbunu, Esq., JP, Opukutu III, the Agadagba/Paramount Ruler of Arogbo Ibe.
The month-long programme brings together sporting events, cultural activities, religious programmes, public lectures, traditional ceremonies, entertainment and other community-oriented activities.
PRE-PROGRAMME ACTIVITIES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 1
The build-up to the main celebration commenced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with a series of activities designed to set the stage for the 28th edition of Arogbo Ibe Day.
The programme includes sporting competitions, football matches, environmental sanitation exercises, cultural activities and other community engagements leading to the main festival.
Among the activities listed are canoe-related competitions, football matches involving community and school teams, sanitation exercises and inspections of the community ahead of the major celebration.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 — PRE-CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES
The major build-up to the festival continues on Friday, September 25, with sporting and cultural activities.
The programme includes swimming and canoe-related competitions, entertainment, cultural dance competitions and football activities involving participating communities and groups.
The activities are expected to provide an opportunity for residents, visitors and participants to connect and celebrate the cultural spirit of Arogbo Ibe ahead of the main Arogbo Ibe Day.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 — DAY 1
The main celebration officially enters its major phase on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The day’s programme includes an Inter-denominational Service at 10:00 AM, followed by a special dance and entertainment programme at 6:00 PM.
The religious and entertainment activities are expected to set the tone for the central days of the cultural festival.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 — DAY 2
Sunday, September 27, will feature a combination of religious, intellectual, educational and cultural activities.
The programme includes:
8:00 AM — Temple Worship
10:00 AM — Quiz Competition involving participating schools
11:30 AM — Public Lecture
12:00 Noon — Seminar/Discussion and Cultural Activities
6:00 PM — Night Party, Music and Entertainment
The day will also feature cultural presentations, traditional displays, live performances, music, dance, fashion exhibitions, photo sessions and other entertainment activities.
The public lecture and seminar are expected to provide an avenue for discussions around Arogbo heritage, cultural identity and the importance of preserving traditional values for future generations.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 — DAY 3
The third day of the main celebration will feature a range of cultural and traditional activities.
According to the programme, the day’s activities include an opening/declaration by His Imperial Majesty, the Agadagba, followed by cultural and traditional presentations and other festival activities.
Entertainment and community activities are scheduled to continue into the evening and night.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 — DAY 4
Sports, traditional activities and entertainment will take centre stage on Tuesday, September 29.
A football match between Arogbo United and Safariboco FC is scheduled for 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
This will be followed by Traditional/Day Party activities from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The day’s activities will continue with a Night Party and entertainment programme from 6:00 PM until late.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 — ROYAL CHIEFTAINCY CEREMONY
One of the major traditional highlights of the 2026 celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30.
At 10:00 AM, His Imperial Majesty, the Agadagba of Arogbo Ibe, is scheduled to preside over the installation, reception and conferment of chieftaincy titles.
The ceremony will take place at the Ibe Palace and is expected to attract traditional rulers, chiefs, community leaders, dignitaries and members of the public.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4 — THANKSGIVING SERVICE
The month-long celebration will officially draw to a close on Sunday, October 4, 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service scheduled for 10:00 AM.
The thanksgiving will provide an opportunity for the community to appreciate God for the successful celebration and to reflect on the importance of unity, cultural preservation and the continued development of Arogbo Ibe.
A CELEBRATION OF CULTURE, IDENTITY AND HERITAGE
The 28th Arogbo Ibe Day Celebration 2026 is expected to serve as more than an entertainment event.
With its combination of traditional ceremonies, sporting competitions, cultural displays, religious programmes, intellectual engagements and community activities, the festival provides an important platform for celebrating the identity and heritage of the Arogbo people.
It also offers younger generations an opportunity to learn about their history, appreciate their cultural traditions and strengthen their connection with their ancestral heritage.
