IYC Egbema Clan Rocked by Leadership Crisis as Chairman Suspended Over Alleged Financial Misconduct
Executives Remove Engr. Lawoni Dumofaye, Cite Alleged Fraud, Unaccounted Funds and Breach of Trust
A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Egbema Clan Chapter, following the suspension of its Chairman, Engr. Lawoni Dumofaye, by members of the executive council over allegations bordering on financial impropriety and misconduct.
According to an official notification dated June 19, 2026, and signed by several members of the clan executive, the chairman was placed under immediate suspension pending further discussions and investigations into allegations raised against him by members of his administration.
The letter, titled “Notification of Suspension of the Present Chairman (Engr. Lawoni Dumofaye) of IYC Egbema Clan,” alleged that the chairman engaged in activities considered fraudulent and unfaithful to the trust reposed in him by members of the executive council.
Allegations Listed Against Suspended Chairman
The executives accused the chairman of failing to properly account for several funds reportedly received on behalf of the organization. Among the allegations listed in the suspension notice are:
- Money allegedly paid by Origin Global through Hon. Alhaji E. Omoko, the Bolowei I of Egbema.
- Alleged disappearance of funds originating from the IYC Western Zone.
- Funds and packages allegedly received from the National Deputy President of the IYC.
- Money reportedly received from NDDC Benin.
- Allegedly unaccounted PIA-related funds.
The executives further claimed that on June 11, 2026, funds sent through Origin Global were paid into the chairman’s account, after which he allegedly became unreachable and switched off all communication lines.
The letter stated that the executive council subsequently convened a meeting to deliberate on the matter and arrived at the decision to suspend the chairman pending further action.
Delegateship Bid Also Halted
In a related resolution dated June 18, 2026, members of the executive council announced that Engr. Dumofaye would no longer serve as Chairman of the IYC Egbema Clan and would also no longer participate in the forthcoming IYC National Election as a delegate.
The resolution stated that the decision was taken collectively by executive members and would remain in force until further notice.
