Democracy Day Message to the Good People of Ovia South West and All Nigerians

Today, as our great nation commemorates Democracy Day, June 12, we stand once again before the mirror of history to reflect on the sacrifices, struggles, victories, and responsibilities that have shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey.
June 12 is not merely a date on the calendar. It is a sacred monument built upon courage, resilience, patriotism, and the collective determination of Nigerians who dared to dream of a nation governed by the will of the people. The day symbolizes the historic 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as one of the freest and fairest elections in Nigeria’s history, and the sacrifices made by countless citizens in the struggle to restore democratic governance. As we celebrate this historic day, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the industrious people of Ovia South West Constituency, the resilient people of Edo State, and every Nigerian across the length and breadth of our beloved nation.
Democracy Beyond Elections
Democracy is not merely the act of casting ballots during elections. It is the continuous pursuit of justice, accountability, equity, transparency, and the protection of human dignity.
A democracy that fails to provide security for its citizens, opportunities for its youth, quality education for its children, affordable healthcare for its families, and economic prosperity for its people remains an unfinished project.
The true essence of democracy is measured not by the number of elections conducted but by the quality of life enjoyed by the ordinary citizen.
Today, many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardships, unemployment, insecurity, infrastructural deficits, and social inequalities. These challenges remind us that the democratic struggle did not end with the return to civilian rule; it continues in our collective quest for good governance and national development.
A Message to the People of Ovia South West
To my beloved people of Ovia South West, I urge us not to lose hope.
History teaches us that every great transformation begins with a people who refuse to surrender to despair. Our constituency is blessed with immense human and natural resources. We possess the capacity to become a model of agricultural development, youth empowerment, educational advancement, and sustainable economic growth.
As your House of Assembly Flag Bearer under the National Rescue Movement (NRM), I remain committed to advocating policies that place the people first, promote inclusive development, empower our youths and women, strengthen local communities, and ensure that government truly serves the interests of the masses.
The future we desire is attainable if we remain united, vigilant, and actively participate in the democratic process.
A Call for National Unity
Nigeria’s diversity remains one of her greatest strengths. Our differences in ethnicity, religion, language, and culture should not divide us but rather enrich our collective national identity.
The challenges facing our nation do not recognize tribal boundaries. Poverty has no ethnicity. Insecurity respects no religion. Unemployment discriminates against no region.
Therefore, the solutions must also be national, collective, and inclusive.
Let us reject hatred, division, intolerance, and violence. Let us embrace dialogue, understanding, peaceful coexistence, and nation-building.
The Duty of Every Citizen
Democracy flourishes when citizens actively participate in governance.
I encourage Nigerians to hold leaders accountable, participate in civic engagements, respect the rule of law, and contribute positively to the development of their communities.
The Nigeria of our dreams cannot be built by government alone. It requires the collective efforts of responsible citizens who believe in the promise of a better tomorrow.
Hope for a Greater Nigeria
Despite the challenges confronting our nation, I remain optimistic about Nigeria’s future.
Our story is still being written. The dream of a prosperous, peaceful, and equitable Nigeria remains alive. The sacrifices of our democratic heroes and heroines must never be in vain.
As we celebrate Democracy Day 2026, let us renew our commitment to justice, good governance, national unity, and the ideals upon which democracy stands.
May the spirit of June 12 continue to inspire courage in our leaders, wisdom in our institutions, and hope in our people.
