Prof. Anyaiwe Calls for Shift from Old to New Political Narrative Ahead of 2027

Prof. Anyaiwe Edese-Emi Destiny has called for a fundamental change of Nigeria’s political narrative from the old order to a new political paradigm, arguing that the country needs a fresh approach to politics, leadership and governance.
He made the call during a live interview with Dr. Odimientimi Agbedeyi on the GlobalEgberiTV Ofunama Facebook platform, where he examined Nigeria’s political and economic realities and the emerging contest between the established political order and a new generation demanding change.
According to Prof. Anyaiwe, Nigeria has reached a point where the old political narrative can no longer adequately respond to the aspirations and expectations of its citizens. He therefore advocated the emergence of a new political narrative capable of redefining the country’s political direction and placing the interests of the people at the centre of governance.
Old Nigeria Versus New Nigeria
Prof. Anyaiwe’s central argument was that Nigeria is witnessing a transition between two competing political narratives.
The old narrative, in his view, represents the established political order, traditional political structures and methods of governance that have dominated the country for decades.
The new narrative, on the other hand, represents a growing demand for political renewal, accountable leadership, competence, responsible governance and a system that responds directly to the needs and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.
He maintained that the emergence of this new political consciousness is particularly evident among young Nigerians, who are increasingly questioning traditional political arrangements and demanding a different kind of leadership.
A New Generation Is Demanding Change
Prof. Anyaiwe observed that the political environment is gradually changing as younger Nigerians become more conscious of their role in determining the country’s future.
He argued that the younger generation should not merely inherit the political system created by previous generations but should have the courage to redefine, reform and improve it.
According to him, the desire for a new political narrative should translate into active political participation, informed electoral choices and sustained demands for accountability.
2027 and the Emerging Political Realignment
Speaking against the backdrop of the 2027 general elections, Prof. Anyaiwe suggested that the coming political contest could further expose the differences between the old political establishment and emerging political forces.
He urged Nigerians to look beyond political personalities and examine the ideas, competence, integrity and capacity of those seeking public office.
He also warned against a political culture where citizens are mobilised primarily through ethnicity, religion, financial inducement or personality loyalty.
His Support for the Obidient Movement
Prof. Anyaiwe, who is a supporter of the Obidient Movement associated with Peter Obi, said the movement represents part of the growing demand for a new political narrative in Nigeria.
He expressed the view that the enthusiasm generated by the movement reflects the desire of many Nigerians for a departure from traditional politics and the emergence of leadership based on competence, accountability and effective management of public resources.
For him, the broader significance of the movement lies in its contribution to the demand for a new political consciousness among Nigerians.
Commitment to NDC Aspirants
Prof. Anyaiwe also disclosed his membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and pledged to support all NDC aspirants from the local level to the federal level.
He said his commitment is part of his determination to participate actively in the political process and contribute to the emergence of a new political order.
The Real Question: What Kind of Nigeria?
At the heart of Prof. Anyaiwe’s message is the argument that the debate should not merely be about who replaces whom in political office, but about what kind of political system Nigerians want to build.
He called for a transition from a political culture dominated by the old ways of doing things to a new narrative driven by competence, accountability, inclusion, development and the welfare of the people.
