Edo Ijaw Leaders Mobilise for PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign in Benin City

BENIN CITY, EDO STATE — The National Chairman of the Amnesty Delegates Forum, Gen. Ogidigba Godstime Ogidigba, has coordinated leaders of various Ijaw communities in Edo State to participate in the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign in Benin City, the Edo State capital, as grassroots mobilisation intensifies ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The mobilisation brought together community leaders from different Ijaw settlements and kingdoms across the state, reflecting the growing involvement of community-based structures in the political activities surrounding the 2027 presidential contest.
The delegation was led by Gen. Ogidigba, who coordinated the participation of leaders from several Ijaw communities for the campaign programme.
Among those in attendance were Hon. Famous Baje, leader of Ikoro Community; Hon. Kororo Desmond, leader of Gelegele Gbene Community; Hon. Idolor Sunday, leader of Inikorogha Community; Comrade Godwin Asama, leader of Igbiloba Community; and Hon. David Osia, leader of Tolofa Community — all within Olodiama Kingdom.
Also present were Hon. Samuel Uroupa, leader of Ofunama Community; Hon. Ogidigba Ebierin, leader of Gbeuba Community; Comrade Ebitebe Obeha, representing Ajakurama Community; and Richard Tunfabor, who led the Abere Community delegation from Egbema Kingdom.
The gathering also attracted prominent traditional and community figures, including HRH Binidodogha Henry, also known as Egbema I, and High Chief Omoh Tonwerigha.
PBAT Campaign Takes Message to Edo Ijaw Communities
The event featured addresses by the South-South Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign, Pastor Reuben Wilson, and the candidate for Warri North Constituency II, High Chief Ebipade Kari.
Their participation added political and grassroots dimensions to the gathering, with discussions centred on community mobilisation and the campaign’s activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement has been conducting grassroots mobilisation across the South-South region in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term. Recent reports have documented the movement’s expansion of its grassroots structures and engagements with community and political leaders across the region. (Salient Times Online)
Ijaw Communities Demonstrate Grassroots Political Engagement
The presence of leaders from communities spread across Olodiama and Egbema kingdoms underscored the role of traditional, community and grassroots leadership in political mobilisation within riverine communities.
For the Amnesty Delegates Forum, the Benin City engagement formed part of its wider mobilisation activities as it seeks to coordinate community stakeholders and participate in the political conversation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gen. Ogidigba Godstime Ogidigba, who signed the statement concerning the mobilisation, expressed the forum’s involvement through the coordination of the various Ijaw community leaders at the event.
The gathering ended on a colourful note, with community leaders and campaign participants engaging with the speakers and participating in the activities of the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign.
2027 Presidential Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) currently lists January 16, 2027 as the date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027. (INEC Nigeria)
The Benin City mobilisation therefore comes as political organisations and grassroots movements across Nigeria intensify their preparations and community engagements ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
